Pen name: Koyu-ken. He was ordained as a Rinzai Zen monk by Okada Kido Roshi who was a master of Hofuku-ji temple in Okayama. He entered Nanzen-ji monastery and practiced Zen under Shibayama Zenkei Roshi. He received the Dharma transmission form Takayama Taigan Roshi who was the abbot of Toushun-ji in Yamaguchi. He was invited to be the Zen master of Tofuku-ji monastery in 1980 and selected to be the chief abbot in 1991.
